Ship Canal, Botanical Gardens & Fish Ladder

The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks (locally known as the Ballard Locks) is a waterway system that connects the saltwater of the Puget Sound to the fresh water of the Ship Canal, which sits about 20 feet above sea level. Boats enter the locks, the gates close and the water rises or falls to the level of the destination waterway. Watching boats pass through the locks, exploring the 7 acres of botanical gardens and looking for fish on the fish ladder.

During our private tour you’ll learn about the history of the locks and walk though the gardens.

After our tour enjoy gourmet boxed lunch with time to explore the Ballard locks on your own.

Meet The Host
Host

Judy Albertson

Judy is a lifelong Washingtonian, living in Whatcom County the past 20 years.  She is blessed with a daughter and son and their spouses and six grandchildren.  She is a retired educator and in retirement finds joy in traveling, volunteering, playing bridge, quilting, reading and cooking.

When asked what Judy enjoys about being a tour host she immediately replies, "the people" and  in addition, the tours are fabulous.  She finds the tours fun, interesting and wonderful when the driving is left to an expert safe driver. Her primary focus as a tour host is to make the tour a great experience for the tour guests.

She doesn't have one specific dream trip in mind but likes to look at experiencing new things that she may not have thought of or not had the opportunity to experience.  She says, that is why being a tour host for Bellair Tours has opened the door to many fun experiences and sharing those experiences with new friends.
